Description
Welcometo the first group of my many vintage and precision electrical components sales by
HallmanLabs.com
(HL) to come! I offer both
NOS (New Old Stock)
and
Retested/Re-certified Used parts
, both of which go through rigorous testing before making it into these ads. Many components from the used lots don't make it through and even some NOS items. For example, only about half of my Mallory Plascaps passed all of the testing, in contrast, all of my vintage NOS Sprague 433P engineering kit caps passed! This showcases the importance of testing capacitors, you can never be sure what will test as NOS or better and which NOS capacitors will fail during testing.
Price is for two capacitors! Use make an offer on 2+ items for lower cost.
(Pictures are of actual item/s you are bidding on, taken at Hallman Labs)
Include in a purchase message which row # capacitor/s you want to order. I will update the list as stock is depleted to reflect what is in stock. If you do not specify within 12 hours of purchase, I will pick out two (or more) for you.

Capacitor Information and Performance Numbers:
The performance measurements table was moved to picture form due to a conflict with the mobile version of the EBay app, if you'd like a hard copy of the measurements table just contact me!
There is a little bit of controversy in the vintage components community over the brand on any blue (plastic) molded capacitor, some say Ajax and others say Mallory. I have heard it argued both ways and due to that, I am giving this tidbit of information to you, the buyer (the full picture with 0 deceit intended)! If anyone has access to a Mallory or Ajax sale catalog from the 1960s that shows these capacitors and/or their part numbers (P/N), please get in contact with me and you can end the debate! Also know that if you see these with Fender, Packard Bell, etc. on the labels, those are just relabeled for use in that company's product. Now in my lot you will find these part numbers for sale: MCI 805, MCI 730 and MCI 750, all of which are 0.056 uF and 200V with 10% tolerance.

These
Ajax blue molded
tested impressively well across all of the measurements!
Sub 9% capacitance tolerance accuracy for all capacitors in this group, most under 5%.
The
Q-Rating and
ESR measurements both look strong and consistent!
These capacitors had very low drift, roughly 5% or less drift during testing. These are
some of the best testing used capacitors
that I have seen thus far, this is why I picked these for use in this ad! These test more consistently across the group than my Sprague Black Beauties and Sprague Bumblebees in ESR, QF, and IR!
Capacitance barely changes between 120Hz and 1kHz
(on one of the caps it doesn't change at all!), this shows strong performance for a variety of circuit operational frequencies (ESR shows similar 120Hz vs. 1kHz strength).
Tested on 8/24/18
Insulation Resistance
is taken for each capacitor, all are within the expected IR value from manufacturer tables, such as from Kemet and Sprague IR vs. Capacitance tables. Minimal drift after initial charging approaches steady state and thus low leakage (250V/(225x10^6) = 1.111x10^-6 amp)
The
Uni-T UT511 Pro Insulation Tester
was used to acquire these values, with accuracy rated at 3% for this meter.
Insulation Resistance is a measurement of the dielectric impedance to DC voltage
, this is why some older insulation tester are called Dielectric Testers. Drift was monitored throughout testing and was only 10% of measured IR values, after 30 seconds this was below 5% (i.e. 250M ohms -> 12.5M max drift). These are
extremely strong IR testing numbers for used capacitors and very consistent across the group.
The Ajax (or Mallory) blue molded capacitors
are extremely popular capacitors
for use in the early to mid '60's by companies like Fender, Magnatone and Packard Bell!
You can find many sellers with these available for + each (used) with almost zero information on their actual performance measurements in things like ESR, IR and QF. Then you have those using the GM328 based transistor tester to get a leakage value, what a joke! Below you will find true performance numbers on the actual capacitors available to buy with measurement devices like the Extech 380193 and UNI-T UT511.
Caps were also
tone tested with my custom BillM Fender Blues Jr using a Celestion G12-H and Schecter Tempest Custom
!

All capacitor acquisitions and testing took place in
North Carolina, USA
and all of my capacitors are
shipped from North Carolina
. Hallman Labs is solely owned and operated by one person, me! In other words, you are helping a small business that just started up when you purchase from HL!
Stop
buying capacitors from sellers that don't test anything except the basic capacitance
at one test frequency, using a multi-meter!! (Not even all the sellers check capacitance) Here at Hallman Labs
I guarantee the performance and accuracy
of my capacitors and their quoted performance numbers. This means if you get a capacitor from me that I said has a capacitance accuracy down to 1%, but you read a 10% tolerance instead, I'll refund you for the purchase. Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, domestic (USA) or international.

"At Your Request" Information
:
If you request it, I will provide a detailed live log of measurements in an excel document for any capacitor/s you want.
I have multiple capacitors that are accurate down to a
thousandth of a percent
and one is actually 100% accurate @ 1kHz. It's
a 1uF Rel-Cap that read 1000.0 nF
with no drift!
At your request
,
I will show video of the testing taking place
so you can see the numbers yourself.
Note:
I will
only
do this for
someone buying 3 or more items
or
if the
item is valued over
.
Any other details you want, like extra pictures, please contact me for that.

Guarantee/Return Information:
Warranty Length USA:
60 Days
Warranty Length International:
30 Days
First, an important note on referencing my performance measurements:
The frequency at which you take your performance measurements will alter the readings greatly. To compare against my numbers, you must use the same frequencies I did (120Hz and 1kHz). Even then, the accuracy of my meter or yours, will easily create a 5-10% difference between us, unless both our meters are well calibrated (mine is). Many meters use 10kHz and 100kHz (or higher) and those values will be nowhere near mine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valid Reasons for Returning:
•
Capacitance is off
by more than 10-20% (or whatever the cap spec says).
•
ESR is at least 20% higher than I reported
, keeping in mind to use the same test frequencies and zero out your meter/s.
• You experience
distortion that you feel is worse than the cap you previously had in
. In most circumstances, I'll allow a return such as this. However, there may be cases or circumstances where I will not allow it.
• Capacitor has been
damaged during shipping
.
• Capacitor
will not fit into your location,
is allowed, as long as you didn't solder it and/or clip the leads.
• You
mistakenly purchased a capacitance or voltage that you can't use
. Assuming it wasn't installed, this is okay up to 30 days out.
There are many other scenarios that I
might
consider. If you feel that you fall into that category, then just message me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For customers inside the
USA
, I do
60 days for NOS
items
and
30 days for re-certified
items! Return shipping will be paid by customer.
For
International
buyers I do
30 days on both NOS and re-certified
items.
Return shipping must be paid by the customer.
Invalid Reasons for Returning:
• You installed it into a circuit and partially blew it out, so now the DC Resistance is barely 1 kΩ
•
Anything you did personally, that damaged the part
, likely will not be eligible.
Contact me for special circumstances or clarification on this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Payment
:
Payment is due either in 24 hours if you are bidding
on a Hallman Labs item,
or is due immediately with a Buy it Now
style auction. PayPal is preferred, but contact me if you have an issue with that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shipping and Related
:
Current Shipping Speed: 1-3 days
Please contact me before initiating a return or leaving negative feedback!
Shipping is free for anyone in the USA
, I offer this instead of offering to pay return shipping (since it will benefit more people). Also, I highly doubt many returns will happen, this is why I did thorough testing.
International shipping rates
are offered with an additional .50 handling fee.
Note:
some countries will charge you an additional customs fee, but I can't predict or know that for every country in the world. I suggest contacting your local postal service and ask them if you are unsure of this.

Thank you for looking at my products and have a blessed day! If you like our products, please come by the website or go to our Facebook page and leave us a review!
Facebook.com/HallmanLab. Since I have the Master Parts Sheet on my website and that usually can't be displayed here, I held off on displaying it and removed direct email. However, I have seen many EBay ads where they link to a personal site with more details on the same item, this is my intention also! You have to copy and paste it, Ebay has banned all active hyperlinks: HallmanLabs.com. My intention is to give the buyer total access to my performance numbers, especially since EBay's mobile app has made it impossible to give real tables in the ad.
