Description
This Bern Hill poster was commissioned for General Electric's Electro-Motive Division (EMD) and features a L&N train crossing a tall bridge. Bern Hill was a freehand artist famous for his marketing work for Electro-Motive Division in the 1950’s. It is part of a series of promotional posters for GM's EMD Unit featuring their customer's trains. The Louisville and Nashville Railroad served the heart of the Southeast from New Orleans and Memphis to Atlanta and the Florida Panhandle. It also extended to St. Louis and later reached Chicago. It was controlled by the Atlantic Coast Line from 1902 until its acquisition by the Seaboard Coast Line in 1982. L&N later merged into the Chessie System and its lines are now part of today's CSX. Two of its best know trains were the Humming Bird and Pan-American that connected Cincinnati to New Orleans and later extended to Pensacola and originated in Chicago.
