Item Description:
Up for your bidding pleasure is a
Rare Vintage J. Chein No. 252 Popeye Drummer Tin Toy with original box
. The toy is in great shape overall with great colors and lithography. The mechanism is still fully functional and the toy appears to have had little use. The drum top is a bit loose as it appears the tabs holding it have been bent down when they should be bent upwards. I didn't dare attempt to bend them back as I don't want to risk breaking one of them.
The box is missing all flaps, but the cardboard is in very nice condition overall. There are some tears and creases, but the actual surface is very clean and the colors are fantastic with no fading. This box deserves to be restored as I haven't seen many this clean, even though the flaps are missing. I've inserted a stiff cardboard piece to keep the box rigid, but I didn't glue it in place. I will let the buyer decide if they wish to restore it or keep it as-is. Either way, it looks great on display, and the missing flaps could fairly easily be reproduced and attached to the box.
Overall, a great and scarce Popeye toy.
